FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS…

  1. Can I book an assessment if I'm not attending the conference?

    No unfortunately, due to the high demand for assessments, we are unable to offer assessments to people not attending the conference.

  2. What can I do if the assessments are booked out?

    You can be placed on a waiting list. Please email your preferred assessor, along with your details to kidlitvic@gmail.com

  3. Do I have to have my submission ready when I book my assessment?

    Submissions close at 11:59pm on 1st April 2019, so you will need to have your submission ready and submitted by this date.

  4. I am in the illustration showcase but have an illustration assessment. Can I grab my folio from the showcase for my assessment?

    Yes, the illustration showcase will be on show all day, so if you have a portfolio assessment, you simply allow enough time to take it from the showcase to your assessment, then return once done!

  5. With the assessments, do we know in advance whether the publisher will provide written or oral feedback? Or should be prepared for either/both?

    Each publisher gives feedback differently, so you won't know until you are in the assessment.

  6. Can I include a book dummy with my portfolio showcase?

    No, you are only able to display your portfolio (Max A3, 10 single pages or 5 double pages)

  7. I am an author/illustrator, can I include illustrations with my manuscript assessment?

    No. A manuscript assessment is an assessment on the text only. You can only submit the manuscript.

    You are welcome to bring some sample illustrations on the day of the conference at your face to

    face meeting.

  8. Can I present illustrations at my pitch?

    You only have three minutes to pitch your story. We advise that you include an illustration in

    your A4 sheet you can leave with the publisher (as well as your pitch and contact information)

  9. Can I book an assessment AND a pitch?

    Yes, you can book 1 x assessment, 1 x pitch, 1 x Masterclass, 1 x Up Close & Personal session on

    Monday 4 March. However, on Monday 11 March, you are able to book any additional ‘extras’ you

    like.

  10. How many pages can I include in my Portfolio Assessment/Showcase?

    Your portfolio can be max A3 size, with either 10 x single pages or 5 x double pages. You can

    include multiple illustrations on one page.

  13. What is the 1 hour Up Close and Personal Session?

    At KidLitVic 2019, you will have the opportunity to sit in on a small group (with only 5 other delegates) to meet, ask questions and chat ‘up close and personal’ with attending publishers.

  14. What is a Pitch?

    Verbal pitches are a face-to-face meeting with an agent or a publisher. These in-person pitch sessions are a great opportunity for you to sell yourself and your writing. At KidLitVic 2019, we are offering you the opportunity to have a one-on-one 3 minute pitch with an attending publisher or agent followed by 2mins of feedback. You will also have the opportunity to give the publisher or agent a prepared A4 handout (about you!) to take away.

  16. What size can my portfolio be?  
    Max A3 either landscape or portrait

  17. Can I have digital portfolio? (Ipad etc...)
    No. We can’t offer power or security for any electronic devices. 

  18. Can I have two or three illustrations on one page?
    Yes, but there can only be 10 pages in total.

  19. Can I leave postcards or business cards beside my portfolio?
    Yes.

  20. I’m not planning to book an illustrator portfolio assessment, can I still display my portfolio?
    The illustrator portfolio display tables are open to all illustrators attending the conference at a booking fee, whether you book an assessment or not. However places are limited, so book in quick!

  21. Can I include original artwork in my portfolio?
    No.  Please only include printed copies of your illustrations.

  22. Can I have ten double sided pages?
    No, you can have 5 double sided pages or 10 single pages. You can have multiple illustrations on one page, so long as there are only 10 pages in total.
