There is also the opportunity to book a 20 minute one-to-one assessment with a publisher of your choice (based on availability), to discuss your Illustrator Portfolio. What is the "free" Workshop?

What is the Masterclass?

The 2018 1hour Masterclass on offer is: TALKING SHOP with a number of industry and publishing professionals. Please note, the Masterclass is open to authors and illustrators who have been published with a traditional trade publisher, a traditional educational publisher or have sold over 1000 copies of a self-published title.

Illustrator Showcase-

All illustrators attending the conference are invited to display their portfolios for the entire day and attend a "Meet and Greet" afternoon tea with selected Publishers.

The cost to book an Illustrator Portfolio Display space is $35. A full day conference ticket must be purchased in order to qualify for an Illustrator Portfolio Display space. Bookings open on Wednesday 1st November 2017, 8pm(AEST). Spaces are limited, so book your space quick to avoid disappointment.
 
A table will be available to display portfolios along with your business cards for the duration of the conference.

Please arrive at the conference at 8.30 and inform registration that you have a folio. You will be shown where to go to display your folio.
Publishers will be invited to view all folios on display.
 
KidlitVic can take no responsibility for portfolios left on display.
 
What to bring:
Portfolio with up to 10 printed illustrations (ie: 10 single pages)
- Please do not include original artwork
- Maximum size of portfolio is A3
Business cards or postcards with your illustrator details
 
Suggested Illustration Portfolio Tips:
1. Tell a story that shows your illustration style
2. Show emotion – different expressions, moods, movements and interaction between characters
3. Show consistency of character – a series of illustrations with the same character
4. If possible demonstrate your ability to draw both people and animals
5. Show different settings, ethnicities, illustration sizes and compositions

Illustrator Portfolio Assessments-

How much will a portfolio assessment cost?
Each assessment costs $80. A KidLitVic Illustrator Portfolio Assessment is a 20 minute one-to-one meeting with an attending publisher of your choice, to discuss your Illustrator Portfolio. Each publisher has their own style of providing feedback. This may be oral or written or both. We advise that you take notes during your assessment meeting. Paid assessments are ONLY available to conference attendees.
 
How do I submit my work for the assessments?

Can I book an assessment if I'm not attending the conference?
No, unfortunately, due to the high demand for assessments, we are unable to offer assessments to people not attending the conference.
 
When can I book an assessment?
Assessments bookings will open Monday 12th February 2018.
 
Will I be able to book who I want for my assessment?
You get to choose who you want for your assessment providing that the publisher or agent still has spaces available. If they are fully booked, you may have to select an alternative assessor. So it pays to book early.
 
Can I book an illustrator and an author assessment?
No, you must choose one or the other. In the first instance, we are only allowing ONE illustrator or author assessment in total to give everyone a fair go. Depending on the uptake of assessments, a second round may be offered.
 
How will assessment times be allocated? There are certain panels I don't want to miss.
We will endeavour to allocate an assessment time for you that takes your particular interests into account.
 
What can I do if the assessments are booked out?

What size can my portfolio be?  
Max A3 either landscape or portrait

Can I have digital portfolio? (Ipad etc...)
No. We can’t offer power or security for any electronic devices. 

Can I have two or three illustrations on one page?
Yes, but there can only be 10 pages in total.
 
Can I leave postcards or business cards beside my portfolio?
Yes.
 
I’m not planning to book an illustrator portfolio assessment, can I still display my portfolio?
The illustrator portfolio display tables are open to all illustrators attending the conference at a booking fee, whether you book and assessment or not. However places are limited, so book in quick!
 
Can I display my illustrator portfolio if I’m not attending the conference?
No. Assessments and portfolio display tables are only offered to those attending the conference.
 
Can I include original artwork in my portfolio?
No.  Please only include printed copies of your illustrations.
 
Can I have ten double sided pages?
No, you can have 5 double sided pages or 10 single pages. You can have multiple illustrations on one page, so long as there are only 10 pages in total.
